Hotel Construction Earns Prestigious Green Building Certification
DENVER – May 11, 2016 – Silverwest Hotels LLC (“Silverwest”), an investment and management company, has announced that it has received LEED certification for its Element by Westin hotel in Basalt, Colorado. The Element Basalt-Aspen joins a select few hotels and resorts in Colorado that have earned the prestigious green building certification.
“We’re very proud that the Element by Westin Basalt – Aspen has been LEED certified and recognized as a best-in-class hotel for its environmental design and practices during construction,” said Ed Mace, CEO of Silverwest. “By paying attention to sustainable design and eco-friendly practices, we have built a next-generation hotel that aims to provide a healthier place for both guests and associates while at the same time doing our part to conserve and protect the environment and respect our spectacular Colorado mountain setting,” he added.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most well-regarded green building certification program worldwide. The program was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is used internationally as a rating system for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of environmentally friendly buildings. All buildings, including hotels, must go through an extensive evaluation and point-based scoring system to achieve an official LEED certification.
The Element by Westin brand was created by Starwood Hotels & Resorts to be a lifestyle brand that is green from the ground up. The Starwood design incorporates natural light and open spaces as well as spacious guestrooms with fully-equipped kitchens, spa-inspired bathrooms and the signature “Heavenly Bed by Westin.” The brand’s design begins with Starwood’s research regarding a segment of the travel market that is looking to live life in balance including healthy and active lifestyles even while traveling away from home. The approach to hotel design is also carried into operations with complimentary breakfasts and evening receptions created with healthier, more sophisticated options.
The eco-friendly prototype design for Element by Westin was then carefully modified architecturally to incorporate local context in architecture and interior design. Silverwest’s goal as developer and owner was to adapt the affordable, extended stay hotel product to the Aspen/Snowmass market. The final design of the hotel was the result of a collaboration of Colorado architectural firms Lipkin Warner Planning & Design of Basalt and O’Bryan Partnership based in Frisco.
The Element Basalt – Aspen offers reward points for guests registered with the Starwood Preferred Guest program, and is currently offering a number of great summer packages, including the Gone Fishing Package, Whitewater Rafting Package, Bike Basalt Package, and Local Spirits Package for guests wishing to tour the Roaring Fork Valley distilleries.
